Aiming to Realize Both a Sustainable Society and the Group’s Further Growth
At the Mitsubishi Chemical Group, our Purpose is to “lead with innovative solutions to achieve KAITEKI, the well-being of people and the planet.” This concept “KAITEKI” is deeply connected to sustainability and has been rooted in our employees around the world as a way of thinking and a guiding principle, having become a solid foundation for realizing sustainability since it was announced in 2011. Meanwhile, the external environment is changing at an astonishing pace and society’s expectations for the role we must fulfill are becoming even greater.
In November 2024, after reviewing our Purpose and the external environment, we formulated KAITEKI Vision 35 to show in detail how we aim to realize the concept of KAITEKI through our business activities. Based on our Purpose, we identified business focus areas in which we will leverage our strengths to address key social issues. With our view that all businesses and employees play a key role in realizing sustainability, our management and employees will strive toward the same goals, and we will further embed sustainability into our business strategies and operations with the aim of realizing both a sustainable society and the further growth of our business.

Promoting Sustainability by Accelerating Innovation and Implementing Solutions
To achieve carbon neutrality and promote the transition to a circular economy, the Mitsubishi Chemical Group is enhancing the sustainable value of its products through fuel conversion, the utilization of biomass and recycled materials, and the optimization of manufacturing processes. In addition, we will contribute to the sustainability efforts of customers and society through the functionality of our products. To this end, we will accelerate innovation and implement solutions, such as the operation of the chemical recycling facility at the Ibaraki Plant.
To maximize the value we provide to society through these implementations, we must constantly review our activities from a sustainability perspective, make timely decisions based on objective data, and communicate information externally. Going forward, in addition to efficiently monitoring environmental data, we will disclose information on our sustainability initiatives, which is becoming mandatory in various countries. Furthermore, we will improve foundation for life cycle assessment (LCA) , including calculations of product carbon footprints, and utilize them as a management tool as well as visualize the environmental impact and value of products and strategically employ the collected data in traceability systems to enhance reliability.

To create sustainable markets, we will advance policy formation and stakeholder collaboration and create an environment for the visualization of sustainable value and the internalization of externality.
