Floating Solar Power Generation System Installed in Hiroshima Plant

Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Manabu Chikumoto; hereinafter “the Company”) hereby announces that it has installed a floating photovoltaic power generation system on the regulating reservoir within its Hiroshima Plant, and the system has started supplying renewable energy-generated electricity.  This project has been organized using the on-site PPA* format.  
 
The major feature of the project is a floating photovoltaic power generation system set up on the regulating reservoir. This provides a number of major advantages, such as enabling the utilization of renewable energy without the need for new land development and allowing direct on-site use of the generated electricity. This reduces transmission loss and grid fees, thereby helping to increase the efficiency of power use.    
 
KYORAKU CO., LTD., the power generation operator, is responsible for the installation, ownership and operation of the power generation system. The Company plans for the Hiroshima Plant to use the generated electricity to switch in part to power sourced from renewable energy. Through this effort, the Company aims to reduce CO2 emissions and environmental impact related to its business activities.

*On-site Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) is a form of contract under which the electric power provider installs, owns, and operates power generation facilities on the site of the user by using appropriate spaces, such as rooftops, idle land, and regulating reservoirs, while the user purchases and consumes the electricity generated by the facilities on the site.
