Strategic Follow-on Investment in Boston Materials to Commercialize Thermal Management Essential for AI Servers and Next-Generation Semiconductor Devices
December 10, 2025
Diamond Edge Ventures, Inc. (Head Office: California, United States; President: Curtis Schickner), the corporate venture capital subsidiary of Mitsubishi Chemical Group Corporation (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President & Chief Executive Officer: Manabu Chikumoto;), has made a strategic follow-on investment in Boston Materials (Location: Massachusetts, Unites States; CEO: Anvesh Gurijala). Based on the relationship strengthened by the follow-on investment, MCG*1 and Boston Materials will start collaborating to co-develop and commercialize advanced thermal interface materials (TIMs)*2 for high-performance computing, AI servers, and next-generation semiconductor devices.
Boston Materials has developed a platform technology that vertically aligns carbon fibers and integrates them with proprietary liquid metal alloys to deliver high thermal conductivity and reliability in demanding data-center environments. The technology enhances the performance of high-capacity, high-frequency semiconductor devices for AI and cloud infrastructure, and enables the achievement of thermal management systems*3 essential for next-generation semiconductor devices.
The strategic follow-on investment will bring together Boston Materials’ thermal management platform technology and MCG’s capabilities in carbon fiber, PET films, coatings, and advanced material testing, accelerating the development of TIMs in high-value-added fields. Furthermore, access to MCG’s research and development facilities and business expertise will help attract new customers and drive application development, especially in Asia.
・Anvesh Gurijala, Founder & CEO of Boston Materials, said,
“AI infrastructure is evolving faster than traditional materials can keep up. Thermal management is now one of the gating factors for performance and reliability, and our Liquid Metal ZRT® products are designed to address this key limitation. Partnering with MCG gives us access to world-class materials expertise and a global footprint that will accelerate the high-volume deployment of next-generation thermal solutions.”
・Curtis Schickner, President of Diamond Edge Ventures, said,
“Thermal management has become one of the most important challenges in advanced semiconductor devices. As power densities increase, the performance gap between current materials and what the industry needs continues to widen. Boston Materials has a differentiated approach, and our investment marks the beginning of a deeper, long-term technical partnership. Together, we intend to develop the next generation of TIM solutions and support customers pushing the limits of data-center and AI computing performance.”
MCG defines advanced data processing and telecommunications as one of its business focus areas under its management vision, KAITEKI Vision 35. Leveraging the strategic follow-on investment and collaboration, MCG will accelerate the delivery of solutions in semiconductors and telecommunications.
