Withdrawal from Polyester Resin for Printer Toner Manufacturing Business

July 25, 2025

Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Manabu Chikumoto; hereinafter “our Company”) has decided to withdraw from the polyester resin for printer toner manufacturing business as follows.

1.           Background to the decision
Our Company has been engaged in the polyester resin for printer toner manufacturing business since 1989. However, the business is now under significant pressure in terms of profitability due to a decline in printing demand driven by the shift toward paperless operations and changes in workstyles following the COVID-19 pandemic, combined with the recent sharp rise in raw material prices and increasing labor costs.
Amid these challenges, we have implemented a range of measures, such as streamlining operations and reducing fixed costs. Nevertheless, after a thorough review of the surrounding business environment, we have decided to withdraw from the business, as we see limited prospects for improving profitability or achieving future growth.

2.           Overview of the business to be discontinued
・Business: Production and sales of DiacronTM (polyester resin for printer toner)
・Plant: Tokai Plant        Aichi (1-2, Ushikawadori 4-chome, Toyohashi-shi, Aichi)
