Endorsement of the Carbon Fiber Association of Japan's Position Paper on the Proposed Amendments to the ELV Directive

In response to the proposed amendments to the ELV Directive being discussed in the European Parliament, the Carbon Fiber Association of Japan has issued a position paper on carbon fibers that will provide value to Europe in its quest for a recycling-oriented, low environmental impact society. Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, a member of the Carbon Fiber Association of Japan, endorses this position paper and will cooperate in publicizing its contents.
 
The Carbon Fiber Association of Japan's position paper presents the contributions of carbon fiber to the automotive industry, examples of recycling practices, and evidence of health effects, and calls for carbon fiber to be properly addressed in the ELV Directive under the following arguments.
 
1. Carbon fiber is indispensable for a hydrogen society.
2. Carbon fiber is indispensable for high-performance automobiles.
3. Carbon fiber is indispensable for European’s key industries.
4. Carbon fiber is a recyclable material.
5. Insufficient evidence of health impacts.
