Plant-derived bioengineering plastic DURABIO adopted for use in "iwasemi RC-α" transparent sound-absorbing panel

The Mitsubishi Chemical Group (the MCG Group) is pleased to announce that DURABIO™, a plant-derived bioengineering plastic, has been adopted for use in the "iwasemi* RC-α” transparent sound-absorbing panel from Pixie Dust Technologies, Inc. iwasemi RC-α was launched in May 2023.


DURABIO™ is a bioengineering plastic made from isosorbide, a renewable plant-derived raw material. It helps reduce the consumption of petroleum, a finite nonrenewable resource, and also contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions because the plants that are used as its raw material absorb CO2 during their growth. DURABIO™ provides excellent impact resistance, scratch resistance, and transparency, and is being used in a wide range of fields, including automotive interior and exterior parts, optical and electronic device components, and everyday sundries. iwasemi RC-α is a transparent sound-absorbing panel based on a new concept, and can be applied like tiles using adhesive tape to glass in conference rooms and workspaces. By using DURABIO™, which provides excellent transparency, iwasemi RC-α provides excellent design sensibilities that “harmonize with glass” while using plant-derived materials.
